Hair Shampoo

Hair Shampoo is a hair care product used for the removal of oils, dirt, dead skin, dandruff, environmental pollutants and other unwanted build up in hair. The higher quality shampoos remove the unwanted build-up without stripping the hair so much that it becomes dry and unmanageable.

Shampoo, when lathered with water, is a surfactant, and while cleansing the hair and scalp, surfactants can remove the natural oils which lubricate the hair shaft. Hair Shampoo cleans by stripping the natural oils from the hair. Sebum, which is the natural oil secreted by hair follicles is absorbed by the strands of hair, and forms a protective layer. Sebum protects the protein structure of hair from damage, but this natural oil protecting layer tends to collect dirt, and scalp flakes along with hair care product ingredients. Shampoos strip the sebum from the hair shafts and in turn remove the dirt attached to it.

Shampooing is frequently followed by conditioning with hair conditioners, which helps combing and styling which are also available in synthetic and natural hair care products.

Dandruff shampoos are developed specifically for those who have dandruff which is a skin condition. These shampoos contain fungicides that reduce loose dander by killing the fungus, Malassezia furfur.

Baby Shampoo for infants and young children is formulated so that it is less irritating and usually less prone to produce a stinging or burning sensation if it were to get into the eyes.

Natural Hair Shampoo such as organic shampoo involves the use of extracts from organically grown plants (without pesticides and fertilisers) and without the use of synthetic fragrances and animal testing. Personal choice of Hair Shampoo is ultimately decided upon in relation to hair types be it oily, natural or dry hair.
